Portland Public Schools: Temporary Part Time Special Education Teacher


Portland Public Schools is seeking a temporary, part-time Special Education Support Teacher to provide instructional services for the remainder of the 2025–2026 school year. This position will support an elementary student in a structured and supportive environment.

The selected candidate will provide specialized instruction aligned with the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP), including academic support, accommodations, modifications, and progress monitoring. This individual will collaborate closely with the Special Education Supervisor to ensure compliance with all state and federal requirements.


The primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Provide direct special education instruction aligned to the student’s IEP
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as required
  • Deliver lessons tailored to the student’s present levels of performance
  • Monitor progress and maintain documentation of services
  • Collaborate with district staff to ensure compliance with FAPE requirements
  • Maintain a structured, supportive learning environment


Eligible candidates must meet the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate
  • Special Education endorsement (Cognitive Impairment, Specific Learning Disabilities, Emotional Impairment, or Autism Spectrum Disorder preferred)
  • Experience working with students requiring behavioral and/or intensive supports preferred
  • Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills


Position Details:

  • Title: Temporary Special Education Support Teacher
  • Reports to: Special Education Supervisor
  • Calendar: Remainder of the 25/26 School Year
  • Location: Westwood Elementary
  • Compensation: Hourly in accordance with PEA contract
  • Start date:  mid April
