This teaching position will provide instruction and emotional behavioral supports for special education students in a self-contained setting.  This position is located at the prestigious University of Texas Elementary School (UTES) in downtown Austin, Texas.  This position is 194 days (traditional school calendar) from August 1st to May 31.  Salary will be spread over 12 months. The University of Texas Elementary School is a public charter school and follows all state and federal regulations for public school services. UTES is a part of the University of Texas at Austin’s College of Education and participates in the Texas Teacher Incentive Allotment.   . A candidate for this position will need to have already completed the Texas Reading Academies or be willing to complete. Start date is August 1, 2025. The candidate selected for this position will be required to attend a paid full day New Employee Orientation on July 28, 2025 in Austin, Texas.

Purpose

Serve as a special education teacher providing individualized support to students with emotional and behavioral needs.

Responsibilities

  • Comply with UTES, UT, and campus-specific curriculum standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Write, manage, and maintain all required special education paperwork, including IEPs, evaluation reports, progress monitoring, and eligibility documents, in compliance with district and legal timelines.
  • Serve as the case manager for assigned students by coordinating services, facilitating ARD meetings, communicating with families, and collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers.
  • Implement each student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) and 504 accommodations with fidelity.
  • Understand the learning styles and needs of assigned students and plan appropriate, differentiated instruction using evidence-based strategies, materials, and tools to meet the needs of diverse learners (including ESL, GT, and at-risk students).
  • Conduct ongoing formal and informal assessments to monitor student progress and adjust instruction accordingly.
  • Create and maintain a classroom environment that supports academic, physical, social, and emotional development.
  • Effectively manage student behavior in alignment with campus expectations, treatment plans if applicable, and the Student Code of Conduct.
  • Communicate regularly with campus administrators, instructional staff, families, and service providers to ensure alignment and support for each student’s success.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, committees, professional development sessions, and collaborative planning as required.
  • Exercise sound judgment in instructional and behavioral decisions with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by campus leadership.

Required Qualifications

Valid Texas Core Subjects with STR EC- 6 and Special Education Supplement EC-6 and must have completed Texas Reading Academies. . Knowledge of assigned subject or subjects. Understanding of TEKS and the curriculum standards of the State of Texas. General knowledge of curriculum and instruction. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work in a non-traditional school setting with special needs students of varying abilities and interests. Maintain awareness and understanding of the role that trauma may play in the lives of our students. Proficiency in technology and technology applications to the level specified by the district. Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. This position requires fingerprinting. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

At least one year of student teaching or approved internship. Experience working with students with behavioral challenges.

Salary Range

$60,000 + depending on qualifications
