(1) ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION PARAPROFESSONAL POSITION
6.5 HOURS PER DAY – MONDAY- FRIDAY (32.5 HRS PER WEEK)
Beginning: October 2025
SUMMARY
Assists assigned teacher in carrying out duties to provide services to students. Properly trained paraprofessionals can play important roles in improving student achievement by reinforcing and augmenting a teacher’s effort in the classroom. Tutorial support can be provided during the school day through push-in/pull-out and/or after school intervention programs as identified in the School Improvement Plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Other duties as assigned. Duties may be shared depending on the needs of the building.
- Assist the certified teacher in developing individual strategies for reinforcing content or skills based on individual students’ needs, interests, and abilities.
- Assist the certified teaching staff in implementing strategies designed to increase student achievement in core academic areas.
- Assist students in assessing their own work.
- Adjust instructional support to meet the needs of individual students and enable student mastery of curriculum content expectations.
- Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
- Effectively use and integrate technology into supplemental academic interventions.
- Reads to students, listen to students read, and participate in other forms of literacy instruction.
- Maintain discipline in the absence of the teacher as well as supervise and escort students on and off the school premises as needed.
- Administer student assessments.
- Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information concerning students and school-related matters.
- Work directly under the supervision of the classroom teacher and/or building Principal.
- Complete 31a daily logging requirements.
- Utilize computer, copiers, and other equipment in performance of duties.
- Attends training, in-service, and meetings as deemed appropriate.
- Desire to work with at risk students.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises students when the teacher is temporarily absent.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); Associates degree or passing grade on Work Keys Test, and passing grade on Basic Skills Test; Preferred or willing to take Crisis Prevention Intervention training; Trained in Ed Plan for Medicaid billing purposes.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, parents, staff and/or community members.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, parents, staff and/or community members. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

May be assigned responsibilities to administer medication or other health-related tasks (i.e., catheterizing, toileting, tube-feeding, head lice checks, etc.)
