JOB SUMMARY

 

This position involves a broad range of responsibilities within the general areas assisting the classroom teacher for the betterment of the Nadaburg/Desert Oasis Elementary School and to provide support for the Nadaburg Unified School District and NUSD Governing Board. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Presents skills reinforcements or guides independent study activities to individuals or small groups of students as directed by the teacher. 
  • Familiarizes self with instructional materials to be used and learns how to use them properly. 
  • Maintains a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students. 
  • Alerts the teacher to any problem or special information about an individual student. 
  • Assist with the supervision of students during class, assemblies, field trips, and duty schedule by following the district’s citizenship program. 
  • Serves as a source of information and help to a substitute teacher in the absence of the regular teacher. 
  • Attends all assigned workshops and/or training sessions as directed by the supervisor. 
  • Possesses a working knowledge of audio/visual and IT equipment (i.e. computers and related classroom hardware and software, VCR, copier,). 
  • Assists with office and other coverage as needed. 
  • For Special Education assignment: 
  • performs duties or requirements that are outlined in students Individual Education Plan (IEP). 
  • For ELL assignment:
  • Provides an appropriate ELL model in the classroom as well as outside the classroom. 
  • Provides ELL instruction, to individuals and small groups, as directed by the teacher. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Classroom Teacher, School Principal, or Director of Special Education.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

  • Associate of Arts degree or two years of post secondary education (60 credit hours) from an accredited college or university or proof of a passing score on ParaPro Test or other state approved test.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

To assist the teacher and administration in achieving the objectives of the specified program by working with individual or small groups of students.

The employee must use hands, arms and fingers to input data, handle, feel or reach; employee may occasionally push or lift up to 50 lbs. such as boxes, supplies, etc. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision such as to read handwritten or typed material, and the ability to adjust focus, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.
The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud and can vary in temperature. The nature of this position is fast-paced and may occasionally be thought of as stressful. Through interaction with the public and other district employees, the employee may encounter different scents.
