SALARY and FTE: 

Full Time

Salary per Whitmore Lake Education Association Contract

Base pay for a Bachelor's Degree is $45,450

Base pay for a Master’s Degree is $52,015

WORK LOCATION: Whitmore Lake Elementary School


WHAT WE NEED: 

A Special Education Teacher for Elementary students who will provide services to support students with IEPs and work with staff, students, and parents to ensure appropriate programming and an exceptional, personalized, education. Someone who will be successful with a caseload of students including children with autism, speech and language disorders, cognitive impairments, emotional impairments, or other health impairments.  Services will include time spent in the general education classrooms for inclusion and pull-out services (individual and small groups).


WHAT YOU NEED: 

  • Valid Michigan teacher’s certificate with special education endorsement (preference given to candidates with three years of experience and Teacher Consultant status.)
  • Ability to work with young children in a cross-categorical setting using a variety of push-in and pull-out services
  • Experience working with students with, emotional impairments and autism
  • Experience with consulting in a general education setting.
  • Experience with and knowledge of behavior management principles as well as positive behavior interventions and supports.
  • Experience with and knowledge of curriculum adaptations
  • Knowledge in the use of technology for communications and student instruction
  • Demonstrated skills in parent consultation and working with diverse populations within the community.
  • A philosophical position that is aligned with the WLPS mission of support in the least restrictive environment.
  • A record of collaborative teamwork.
  • Ability to administer and interpret results of disability specific assessments.
  • Ability to write lesson plans, Special Education documents such as IEPs, and other related correspondence.
  • Ability to direct the activities of others to execute student IEP goals.
  • Ability to work professionally, collaboratively, and effectively with children, their families, and staff.
  • Ability to utilize district technology and work to maintain effective documentation.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.
