Please Note: This is an anticipated Extended School Year (ESY) Special Education postion dependent on grant funding.
Dates: July 6th - July 30th
Job Summary: This position will provide direct service to the needs of special education student and assess student current levels of performance for progress notes.
Responsibilities:
- Provides direct service to the needs of special education students.
- Prepares reports of formal and informal assessments.
- Attends and participates in evaluation team meetings.
- Administers a variety of standardized tests.
- Prepares and maintains documentation for Case Management.
- Participates in the IEP process, FBAs and behavior intervention plans.
- Provides direct service to students both in and out of the classroom.
- Helps students overcome behavioral challenges.
Knowledge, skills and capabilities:
- Use of an Asset based team approach and strong collaboration with mental health professionals, general education and district staff
- Demonstrated ability to write legally sound and educationally meaningful IEPs.
- Implement evidence based instructional practices designed to address Common Core and SEL Standards
- Ability to provide Specialized Instruction to identified students in a resource and inclusionary model
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positively oriented, safe learning environment
- Strong communication skills
- Understanding of Federal and State Special Education Regulations
- Experience with students who exhibit high levels of anxiety, attention and behavioral needs
- Demonstrates knowledge of trauma sensitive strategies and cultural competence
- Demonstrates ability to motivate students using positive acknowledgements and personal interest.
Qualifications:
- Experience:
- Case Management; ability to write IEPs, FBAs and behavior intervention plans.
- Must be able to provide direct service to students both in and out of the classroom.
- Must be able to physically provide classroom control.
- Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree required.
- Certification & Licensing:
- Must hold a RI Department of Education special education certification.
- Physical Requirements:
- Walk, climb stairs, bend and lift up to 45lbs.
