Summary
Filer Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Literacy Paraprofessional to support our students' reading and writing development in a part-time capacity. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers to create a positive and engaging learning environment, assisting students in enhancing their literacy skills. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' educational journeys while fostering a love for reading and learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing literacy instruction and interventions for students in small groups and one-on-one settings.
- Support students in developing reading comprehension, fluency, and writing skills through guided practice and tailored activities.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers regarding individual student needs and achievements.
- Create and maintain a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages student participation and engagement.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to plan and prepare instructional materials and resources.
- Assist in organizing and participating in literacy-related events and activities, such as reading programs and book fairs.
- Provide support in classroom management and behavior guidance to promote a conducive learning atmosphere.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions as required to enhance skills and knowledge related to literacy education.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or higher in education, literacy, or a related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of literacy development and effective instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when needed.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed in their literacy skills.
- Familiarity with educational technology and resources that support literacy instruction is a plus.
- Must pass background checks and comply with all school district policies and procedures.
