Position Summary:
We are seeking a compassionate, flexible, and dedicated Long-Term Middle School Special Education Teacher to join our team at Albany Elementary. This position will provide continuity of instruction and support for students with diverse learning needs during a staff absence. The ideal candidate will create a structured, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes academic progress, social-emotional development, and student independence. The teacher will implement existing plans while maintaining consistency in services and expectations for students.
Responsibilities:
- Implement and follow existing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) to support student learning and compliance.
- Provide direct instruction and support in core academic areas using differentiated and evidence-based strategies.
- Adapt lessons, assignments, and assessments to meet individual student needs.
- Monitor and document student progress toward IEP goals during the duration of the assignment.
- Collaborate with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, and support staff to ensure accommodations and modifications are consistently applied.
- Maintain a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment that supports behavioral and social-emotional needs.
- Communicate with families and staff regarding student progress and classroom updates as needed.
- Maintain accurate and compliant special education records and documentation.
- Participate in IEP meetings and team discussions, as appropriate during the assignment.
- Uphold school policies and procedures to ensure a safe and orderly learning environment.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field.
- Valid Minnesota Teaching License in Special Education (appropriate licensure area required).
- Experience working with middle school students and/or students with disabilities preferred.
- Knowledge of IEP implementation, accommodations, and special education compliance requirements.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
- Ability to quickly build rapport with students and staff and maintain continuity of instruction.
- Flexibility, patience, and adaptability in a temporary teaching role.
