Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Migrant Paraprofessional at South Hills Middle School. This full-time position is designed to support migrant students and their families by providing academic assistance, fostering a welcoming environment, and promoting educational success. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and staff to ensure that the unique needs of migrant students are met, facilitating their integration into the school community.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in implementing instructional plans and adapting materials to meet the diverse needs of migrant students.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in academic subjects, helping to reinforce learning concepts and skills.
- Collaborate with school staff to identify and address the specific challenges faced by migrant students and their families.
- Facilitate communication between migrant families and the school, providing information about resources, programs, and services available to them.
- Support the social and emotional well-being of migrant students by creating a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Assist with the coordination of after-school programs, tutoring, and extracurricular activities that support migrant students.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate regularly with teachers and parents regarding student performance.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to the needs of migrant students.
- Advocate for the rights and needs of migrant students within the school and community.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the educational goals of the school.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Previous experience working with migrant populations or in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of cultural diversity and sensitivity to the unique challenges faced by migrant families.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and independently when required.
- Proficient in the use of technology and educational software to support student learning.
- Bilingual skills in English and another language commonly spoken by migrant families are a plus.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.

This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment “at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
