- Summary
The Migrant Paraprofessional-Preschool at Bickel Elementary School plays a vital role in supporting the educational and developmental needs of preschool-aged children from migrant backgrounds. This position involves working closely with teachers and staff to create a nurturing and inclusive learning environment. The paraprofessional will assist in implementing educational activities, providing individualized support, and fostering positive relationships with students and their families.
Responsibilities
- Assist teachers in planning and implementing age-appropriate curriculum and activities for preschool children.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, helping them engage with learning materials and activities.
- Monitor and assess student progress, providing feedback to teachers regarding individual needs and development.
- Facilitate communication between students, families, and school staff, ensuring that families are informed and engaged in their child's education.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and organized classroom environment that promotes learning and exploration.
- Support the social and emotional development of students, encouraging positive behavior and conflict resolution skills.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to early childhood education and migrant family needs.
- Collaborate with community resources to provide additional support for students and families as needed.
- Help with the preparation and organization of classroom materials and resources.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and other school-related events as required.
Requirements - High school diploma or equivalent; coursework in early childhood education or a related field is preferred
- 2 years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam)
- Previous experience working with preschool-aged children, particularly in a diverse or migrant setting, is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff.
- Knowledge of child development principles and early childhood education practices.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and adapt to the needs of students and the classroom environment.
- Bilingual skills (English/Spanish) preferred to effectively communicate with students and families.
- Patience, compassion, and a genuine passion for supporting the educational growth of children.
- Ability to pass background checks and meet any other state or federal requirements for working in a school environment.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment “at will” policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
Starting Salary Range: $17.62+ per hour depending on experience
Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening.
