Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Paraprofessional to join our team at IB Perrine Elementary School. The ideal candidate will work closely with students with diverse learning needs, providing support and assistance to help them achieve their educational goals. This part-time position requires a strong commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students, facilitating their engagement in academic and social activities.
- Monitor student progress and behavior, documenting observations and reporting any concerns to the classroom teacher or special education staff.
- Assist in the preparation and organization of instructional materials and resources.
- Support students during transitions, including lunch, recess, and other activities, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other staff to create a positive and inclusive classroom environment.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge in special education practices.
- Foster positive relationships with students, encouraging their independence and self-advocacy skills.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
Requirements
- 2 years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the ParaPro Assessment (Praxis Exam)
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs or behavioral challenges, is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of behavior management strategies and techniques.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to remain patient, calm, and supportive in challenging situations.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software relevant to special education.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed for mobility and participation in activities.
- Willingness to undergo background checks and comply with school district policies and procedures.
This is an “at will” position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.
