Position Summary:
The ML Paraprofessional provides instructional and language support to Multilingual Learner students under the direction of certified ML teachers. This position supports students in both pull-out and mainstream classrooms to help improve English language acquisition and academic success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist in delivering instruction and language development activities aligned with students’ English proficiency levels.
- Support ML students in general education classrooms by clarifying content, scaffolding instruction, and facilitating understanding.
- Implement accommodations and modifications as directed by the ML teacher.
- Assist with the administration of language assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS, screeners).
- Translate basic classroom instructions or school communications when appropriate and qualified.
- Monitor student progress and behavior; provide feedback to teachers.
- Maintain confidentiality and support an inclusive, culturally responsive environment.
- Participate in professional development related to ML strategies and compliance.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent (required).
- Associate’s degree or two years of postsecondary education, or ability to pass a paraprofessional assessment (as required by state/federal regulations).
- Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students preferred.
- Bilingual skills preferred, but not required.
- Patience, flexibility, and strong interpersonal communication skills.
Working Conditions:
