Position Summary:

The ML Paraprofessional provides instructional and language support to Multilingual Learner students under the direction of certified ML teachers. This position supports students in both pull-out and mainstream classrooms to help improve English language acquisition and academic success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in delivering instruction and language development activities aligned with students’ English proficiency levels.
  • Support ML students in general education classrooms by clarifying content, scaffolding instruction, and facilitating understanding.
  • Implement accommodations and modifications as directed by the ML teacher.
  • Assist with the administration of language assessments (e.g., WIDA ACCESS, screeners).
  • Translate basic classroom instructions or school communications when appropriate and qualified.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior; provide feedback to teachers.
  • Maintain confidentiality and support an inclusive, culturally responsive environment.
  • Participate in professional development related to ML strategies and compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (required).
  • Associate’s degree or two years of postsecondary education, or ability to pass a paraprofessional assessment (as required by state/federal regulations).
  • Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students preferred.
  • Bilingual skills preferred, but not required.
  • Patience, flexibility, and strong interpersonal communication skills.

Working Conditions:

  • Work is typically performed in a school/classroom environment.
  • May involve frequent standing, walking, and light lifting.
  • Requires the ability to interact effectively with students and staff.
