Position Summary
Hastings High School is seeking a highly qualified and student-centered Resource Room
Teacher to support students with disabilities in accessing the general education curriculum. The
Resource Room Teacher will provide direct instruction, coordinate individualized supports, and
collaborate with staff to ensure student success in both academic and social-emotional
domains.
Primary Responsibilities
● Provide specialized instruction to students with Individualized Education Programs
(IEPs) in a resource room setting
● Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations
● Progress monitor student goals and maintain accurate and timely documentation
● Collaborate with general education teachers to support accommodations, modifications,
and inclusive practices
● Serve as a case manager for assigned students
● Participate in IEP meetings and communicate effectively with families and stakeholders
● Support students in developing executive functioning, organization, and self-advocacy
skills
● Assist in transition planning for post-secondary outcomes (college, career, and
independent living)
● Utilize data to inform instruction and intervention strategies
● Maintain compliance with Michigan Department of Education special education
requirements
Qualifications
● Valid Michigan teaching certificate with Special Education endorsement (e.g., LD, CI, EI,
or equivalent)
● Demonstrated knowledge of special education law and compliance requirements
● Experience working with high school students with diverse learning needs preferred
● Strong collaboration and communication skills
● Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, and staff
● Experience with IEP systems and progress monitoring tools preferred
Preferred Qualifications
● Experience with inclusion/co-teaching models
● Familiarity with transition planning and post-secondary readiness
● Knowledge of Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS)
