Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Oakville Elementary. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position involves collaborating with educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that promote academic and social growth for each student.
Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to adapt curriculum and instructional strategies to meet the needs of students.
- Assess and evaluate student progress and adjust teaching methods accordingly.
- Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in both one-on-one and small group settings.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, behavior, and any concerns.
- Work closely with support staff, including paraprofessionals and therapists, to ensure the delivery of appropriate services.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best practices in special education.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and IEP documentation.
- Foster a sense of community within the classroom and promote social skills development among students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with diverse learning needs, including those with physical, emotional, and developmental disabilities preferred.
- Strong understanding of special education laws, regulations, and best practices.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, and staff.
- Ability to create and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
