Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team at Parkside Primary as a Special Education Paraprofessional. The ideal candidate will support students with diverse learning needs in a collaborative and inclusive environment. This full-time position involves working closely with teachers and special education staff to facilitate the academic and social development of students with disabilities.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the implementation of individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students in academic settings.
- Help students develop social skills and promote positive behavior in the classroom.
- Monitor and document student progress, providing feedback to teachers and parents as needed.
- Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and lunch/recess periods.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment.
- Assist with the preparation of instructional materials and classroom organization.
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student information and adhere to school policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Paraprofessional Educator License registered in Madison County
- Previous experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, staff, and families.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting students with diverse learning needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and take direction from teachers and special education staff.
- Familiarity with special education laws and practices is a plus.
- Proficient in basic computer skills and willingness to learn new technologies as needed.
- Must pass a background check and any other requirements set forth by the school district.
Minimum Requirements for Paraprofessional License
One of the following required:
• Associate’s degree or higher
• 60 semester hours of coursework
• High School Diploma or GED and a score of 460 or higher on the ETS Parapro
• High School Diploma or GED and the following scores on the ACT Workkeys
