    This is a 1.0 FTE position as a Special Education teacher for the 2026-2027 school year at Lafayette Sunnyside Intermediate School.  Applicants must be licensed from the State of Indiana in Mild Interventions. Consideration will be given to applicants who are enrolled in a state-approved Transition to Teaching program or who are eligible for an Indiana Alternative Special Education License assuming the prerequisite skills are possessed.  Those already on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an INTERNAL application by Tuesday, May 5, 2026.  Candidates that are not currently on a certified contract with the Lafayette School Corporation should complete an external application through Applitrack.

    Position Summary

    Sunnyside Intermediate School is seeking a dedicated and student-centered 5th�6th Grade Special Education Teacher (Mild Interventions) to provide high-quality, individualized instruction and support for students with diverse learning needs. The successful candidate will design and implement standards-aligned lessons and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote academic growth, skill development, and independence across content areas. This teacher will utilize evidence-based instructional strategies, differentiated supports, and progress monitoring to ensure student success in both resource and inclusive settings.

    Working collaboratively with general education teachers, related service providers, and families, the Special Education Teacher will support the academic, social, and behavioral development of intermediate students. The position requires a strong commitment to inclusive practices, compliance with Indiana special education regulations, and fostering a positive, supportive learning environment that prepares students for continued success in middle school and beyond.

    Qualifications

    • Valid Indiana teaching license in Mild Interventions

    Alternative Qualification

    • Applicants enrolled in a state-approved Transition to Teaching program in Mild Interventions
    • Candidates eligible for an Indiana Alternative Special Education License in Mild Interventions if prerequisite competencies are demonstrated.
