Description:  
The Meriden Public Schools seeks a full-time special education teacher for the 2025-2026 school year for Hanover Elementary School in the STARS program.
 
The special education teacher will work with students with special needs, including autism and communication needs, in some cases.  Responsibilities of the special education teacher also include conducting individual assessments, writing IEP’s, participating in PPT’s, timely reporting of student progress, assisting in development of FBA’s & BIP’s, training and supervision of paraprofessionals, maintaining positive communication with parents, developing student schedules, assisting with toileting, feeding, and lifting as required and other related duties assigned by the supervisor or principal.
 
Within this role, the special educator will work collaboratively with outside agencies that support students with disabilities, as the students work to develop 21st Century Skills and prepare for independent living after high school.  
 
Qualifications: 
 A valid Connecticut teacher certification with endorsement #065, #165, or #265 is required.

Experience working with students who have been identified as having autism and communication needs is preferred.  A strong candidate should have experience with AAC and working with a BCBA to create effective programming for students.
