Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to join our team at Viper Elementary. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with students with diverse learning needs and will be committed to creating an inclusive and supportive classroom environment. This full-time position requires a collaborative approach to teaching, where the teacher will work closely with parents, staff, and support personnel to ensure that each student achieves their fullest potential.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet the unique needs of each student.
- Assess and evaluate students' progress through regular observations, assessments, and data collection.
- Create a positive and engaging classroom environment that fosters learning and growth for all students.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to provide support and accommodations within the mainstream classroom.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and any concerns that may arise.
- Utilize a variety of teaching methods and resources to address different learning styles and abilities.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current with best practices in special education.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation related to student performance and IEP compliance.
- Work closely with support staff, including paraprofessionals and therapists, to facilitate student learning and development.
- Advocate for students' needs and rights within the school and community.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting is preferred.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
- Proficiency in using technology and educational software to enhance learning.
