Job Summary
RW Combs Elementary is seeking a dedicated and passionate Special Education Teacher to join our team. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with students with diverse learning needs, providing tailored instruction and support to facilitate their academic and social development. This full-time position requires a commitment to fostering an inclusive and nurturing environment, ensuring that all students reach their fullest potential.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs, in collaboration with parents, teachers, and support staff.
- Provide direct instruction and support to students in various settings, including one-on-one, small groups, and inclusive classrooms.
- Monitor and assess student progress, adapting instructional strategies to meet the evolving needs of each student.
- Collaborate with general education teachers to integrate accommodations and modifications into the classroom curriculum.
- Maintain accurate records of student performance, behavior, and progress towards IEP goals.
- Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress, challenges, and strategies for support at home.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss student needs and develop comprehensive support strategies.
- Provide training and support to staff on best practices for working with students with special needs.
- Stay current with special education laws, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and effective service delivery.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, understanding, and acceptance among all students.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
- Valid state teaching certification in Special Education.
- Experience working with students with disabilities in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet diverse learning needs.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
